Instrument Rental Fees
If you need to rent a school-owned instrument, there is a $67.50 fee per semester ($135 per year) paid to the district through My School Bucks (MSB). This payment covers the cost of having the instruments professionally cleaned and serviced over the course of the year. See the information below and please contact Ms. Petro (amanda.petro@leanderisd.org) with questions. This is the only way to make payments when renting an LHS instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you are not sure what you need to pay for or if you have paid, please contact Ms. Amanda Petro.
Every year there are always several questions that arise that will hopefully be answered right off the bat:
- I am renting a specific marching instrument AND concert instrument, do I have to pay for both?
-
- YES! You will pay one $67.50 fee for the marching instrument and one $67.50 instrument fee for the concert instrument. This will total to $135.00. In typical years, each instrument is only utilized during one semester (even though you will rent and practice on the concert instrument throughout the year), so we only charge one semester fee per instrument.
- A band director is having me play an auxiliary instrument for a specific piece of music (contrabassoon/soprano sax/piccolo trumpet/etc.), do I have to pay a fee for this instrument?
-
- NO! If a band director is having you play this instrument because of a piece of concert music, you are not responsible for the fee. We can’t force you to pay for a piece of music that WE picked. If you have questions, just email us!
- I want to learn a solo for an auxiliary instrument and perform it at the end of the semester (contrabassoon/soprano sax/piccolo trumpet/etc.), do I have to pay an instrument rental fee?
-
- YES! You would have to pay a fee for this instrument because you are choosing to perform this specific solo and will need to check out the instrument for the entire semester to practice.
- We decided to purchase an instrument part way through the year, are we still responsible for paying the instrument rental fee?
-
- YES! Even if it was only for a few weeks, we are obligated to have that instrument cleaned before it can get used by another student!
- Does this instrument rental fee cover repairs to the instrument?
-
- SORT OF! The instrument rental fee covers basic cleaning and maintenance for all instruments. Damage done by improper use or accidental damage are the responsibility of the renter. This is laid out in the instrument rental agreement form you will sign when checking out an instrument.
- I am renting an instrument for only one semester, can I still pay online?
-
- If you are assigned only one instrument for one semester (meaning the total you owe is $67.50), you will not be given an option through the online store to purchase a ½ year rental. You will need to write a check for $67.50 made out to Leander ISD with your student’s name, school, and “Instrument Rental” in the Subject area and bring the check to the Leander ISD District Office.
